2 years!

A few days ago was two years together. Bloody ages! We went out to celebrate with swanky Italian food and cocktails (we can only take so many bowls of noodles and rice).
Again, we apologise for the horrific standard of the photos on this blog, the romantic mood lighting and the camera did not get along at all.

Hanoi is CRAZY. We're in a really nice hotel smack bang in the middle of the old quarter, so as soon as we step outside there's cyclos and motorbikes almost running over our toes as well as street food stalls, shops or coffee shops overflowing every inch of the pavement into the road and temples nestled in between the chaos. We're sorry about the blurry photos, they do give a sense of how bonkers the roads are here though!

^ a rare scene of tranquility in the middle of the city

We signed up for a backpackers tour of Halong Bay but the day before the company called to say that their boat was broken! They offered to either put us on another tour for the same price or refund our deposit, and it turned out the other tour was more expensive and swankier, with awesome extras; we were two very happy backpackers on a swanky floating 3 star hotel!

We went kayaking too, and as the only teenagers on board we were a bit more energetic than the others and could go off exploring on our own. We found a cave that cut through an island, covered in bright purple crabs and the guide showed us a tunnel we could paddle through into a kind of lagoon, completely surrounded by sheer cliffs, where monkeys were traversing across the rock face or throwing themselves down the cliff to a tree 20 feet down, some with tiny babies clinging on to their fur.

Halong Bay is truly stunning and there are so many islands that even with hundreds of tourist boats plying the water there was still a sense of complete tranquility for most of our high class cruise. The new cruise included a complimentary glass of wine on the top deck at sunset before our gourmet 4 course dinner!

^ this is a fish served in a carrot net. we spent 15 minutes (we were a bit tipsy
which didn't help) with a Dutch couple trying to figure out how on earth they
do this before giving up and asking the waiter

^ after dinner we went squid fishing, Kat caught the big one!

^ on the second day we went to see a giant cave.
obnoxious Chinese tourists aside, it was awesome

Thank you Gramps and Rab!

We had such an awesome time in Kuala Lumpur, and it was so lovely to see some familiar faces! Thank you so much for letting us stay with you, and we're looking forward to seeing you back at home soon. We hope we didn't taint your reputation too much!

Yesterday we decided we had had enough culture and couldn't afford Sentosa, so we went wakeboarding instead! Sadly that isn't either of us in the picture, but you get the idea.

^ finders keepers / this TV washed up on the beach while we were eating lunch, so we rescued the poor defenceless thing before it drowned (or hit a dolphin on the head)

^ we walked past some guys doing a crazy synchronised kite show

Yesterday we went for a walk through Clarke Quay and Chinatown, moving swiftly past the shop with snakes in vinegar to a noodle shop that definitely only sold chicken for lunch, before heading to East Coast Park and renting bikes. The park was really quite nice, despite being packed as we'd stupidly decided to go on a Sunday afternoon but aside from an incident with a six seater bike car driven by a lady on a phone that tried to kill Kat, we had a gorgeous time and rode for hours along the coast (and Ryan raced an aeroplane as we went past the airport).

^ he was winning!

^ this wins our worst parking worldwide award, hands down

Space Ginger!

The space museum in KL is full of awesome stuff including a space toilet (mainly aimed at children, so of course we loved it), is free and is highly air conditioned. Three major boxes ticked in our sweaty cheapskate books, but minus points for being at the top of a really, really big hill. We may have returned to the awesomest burger joint in the world to try their wackier creations; we made friends with the co-founder on our first trip and decided that our lives would not be complete without trying the Jammin' with Elvis Burger (beef, peanut butter and jam) and the Water balloon (beef, salted watermelon and lychee), but it was all in the name of research for our Burger League table, so the calories don't count. Also, scroll down for Ryan's travel workout (had to burn off the burger somehow)!

^ Petronas Tower pull ups!

^ your eyes are not deceiving you, that is lychee and watermelon
with a beef patty in a charcoal burger bun.

Food KLorious food

^ possibly the best satay EVER

^ honeydew snow ice!

^ we are still fine-tuning the scoring system, but My Burger Lab may just be at
the top of our Global Burger League table (we haven't tried their Elvis Burger yet
though, which is beef, cheese, peanut butter and jam, so stay tuned for updates)

^ as if we didn't love this place enough, this is their tip jar
